The Prelude

For a while I have been talking about a blog to keep all the travel escapades in one place. Kristin decided to do more than talk and created this website. My World Cruise is the guinea pig to work out all the kinks. Problem is for all my work as a computer user, I simply want an on off button to most things in life. I'm really saying - this probably won't be very smooth for a while - bear with me as I strive to figure all this out. She has definitely over engineered this for a user of my caliber but, we have other exciting trips in the works that she will own.

I hope you all won't give up on me - the more people expecting updates will force me to try to put them out here - peer pressure really works. There is a link on the bottom of the page that you can enter your email address and be notified when I add a post. You don't have to check every day. I hope it works but what do I know. I'm thinking there is probably a way to comment on posts but again what do I know. I am hoping to post an itinerary soon and Kristin will help with that so you can look ahead and if you have any suggestions for all the places I will going, please comment - see how I anchored the commenting to why you might want to?

This will be one adventure after another and if nothing else, you can get a laugh as I try to get better at this - I know I will be laughing a lot.

On to the good stuff. I arrived in Venice several days early. It helps with jet lag, I enjoy Venice and due to a change (after I had my airline ticket), the cruise is leaving from Trieste Italy. The Italian government decided cruises cannot depart or arrive in Venice anymore due to environmental impact. Which means I get to enjoy a train ride!

But I digress. I am in Italy and went into Venice today. I'm staying in Mestre, right across the street from the train station. Easy to get to Venice and easier to schlepp my bags to the train tomorrow. Kristin wanted to know just how many people would visit Venice in January. The weather is grey, in the 40's, damp windy cold and the answer is - more than one might think. Not June - August but all the tourist sites are crowded.

Let's see if I have figured out how to load a video that works - let me know!

Unrelated - for those of you who have visited Venice - did you see the chandeliers in the covered walkway around the piazzo perimeter by the shops - they are all unique and weird. Like really, who wakes up thinking upside down duck heads are the perfect foil for a very large light?

And to agree with one of Kristin's friends - Yes I am funnier but Kristin is still more fun !

Ciao!

PS Seriously, enter your email for updates. Your information is safe with me. I wouldn't know how to sell it if I wanted to.

The upside ducks are indeed different but very cool.

Karin, this is great! There has to be some significance to the upside down duck chandelier....I'll have to see what I can find. Keep the posts coming when time permits! 🙂 ~Kris

Ya know - I think I was wrong - not ducks but sea gulls? the beak is too narrow.
